The US Senate Foundation awards $1,000 grants to incoming college freshmen. The grants are awarded on the basis of scholarship, a personal statement outlining the applicant's college goals, demonstrated leadership ability, financial need and other criteria. The applications are judged on a point system. Each point can make a difference in winning. It is important that students maximize each of their points in section VI, References. Students the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation scholarship application is now available online. The deadline for this scholarship application is January 15th. The Mensa scholarship program is open to applicants who will be enrolled next academic year in a degree program in an accredited U.S. college or university, and who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. The applicant need not be a member of Mensa nor qualified for Mensa. The Mensa Foundation scholarships are awarded solely on the merits of the essay written by the applicant. The awards are not affected by age, race, gender, level of post-secondary education, or financial need.
Awards will be made on the basis of an essay of no more than 550 words. The essay is to describe the applicant's career, vocational, or academic goal. We encourage students to carefully proofread their essay. The essays will be judged and scholarships will be awarded at three levels: local, regional, and national. The State Fair of West Virginia, in association with corporate, civic and individual contributors, will offer five, four year scholarships up to $1,000 in 2017. The State Fair Scholarship Program recognizes youth who have participated in the State Fair, excel academically and have a proven financial need. Applicants must be pursuing a vocational trade, associate or bachelor degree. All applicants must have participated in the junior livestock show, equine show or 4-H and FFA Youth exhibit program within the previous five years. The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program offers $10,000 renewable scholarships to students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship. Students are asked to write an original and creative essay between 700 and 1,000 words that describes an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born. The official may have addressed an issue at the local, state, or national level.. Students should use at least five varied sources. Winners can receive up to $10,000. The National Wild Turkey Federation scholarship is now available. Students who are current members of the NWTF with a GPA at or above a 3.0 should apply for the scholarship. Students must support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports. Click here for an application. The National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is a constitutional speech contest. Students will prepare an oration on the Constitution of the United States.
